Wall Collections
When planning the family portrait session, I like to think about and plan for the final products. Taking the extra time at the beginning of the process to plan for the end products makes a HUGE difference in the outcome of the family portrait session. For example, in our consultation, we may decide that we’d like a large family portrait over the fireplace. That means that I probably need to shoot a horizontal image of the entire family with plenty of room for a canvas gallery wrap or framed portrait. It also means that the wardrobe for the session should compliment the colors of the living room since the family portrait will hang in this space. So, if your living room has mostly greys and blues, we wouldn’t want to wear purple for the session. As your photographer, it’s my job to help you through this process!
Wall Collections are a great way to display your brand new family portraits. Many times a collection will include one family portrait and then smaller photographs of the children. Or maybe Mom with the kids and Dad with the kids. Another option is the fun family shot where everyone is smiling and laughing together. Being family. I love it!
Family Portraits for The Roots
I met with Amanda for the consultation before our family session together. During the consultation, we identified three spaces in her home that would be good places for family portraits. I took pictures of these wall spaces on my phone. Then, I was able to import those images into a special software program. After the session, we reviewed all of the photographs together. I was able to put together wall collections in the software. Amanda could see her own walls with her new family portraits. Together, we worked with the wall collections until we got three separate groupings that fit perfectly on her walls. If you need to visualize something, this is certainly the way to do it. And everything is calibrated so that the sizes are accurate. So you know exactly what it will look like on the walls and what sizes are appropriate for the space. What a fun session with this amazing family! I can’t wait to install their wall collections and see the final products!
