Giving Goes Glam

Giving Goes Glam is a fashion show and luncheon. The event benefits the programs and services of both Interfaith of The Woodlands and Junior League of The Woodlands. For the past six years, this event has been able to make a significant impact on those in the community.  I was asked to photograph the step and repeat photos at the beginning of the event.  What a fun time!  There was a line of people waiting to take pictures with their friends and co-workers.  The energy was high and everyone was excited about the event.  Entire neighborhood communities and corporate communities came together for this event to give back.

Giving Back

Giving back is important to me and to many in our community.  When you help someone else, you help the entire community to be stronger, healthier, and more vital.  A healthier community is a better place to live for us all.  People who give back are happier because they feel that they can make a difference in someone’s life.  And you truly do touch someone’s life every time you give.  Leaders who give back are more respected for their community outreach.  Employers garner respect and a greater sense of community within the company.  Giving back is good business.  So find a way that you can give back.  Every little bit makes a difference.

Shooting outdoors doesn’t always mean “perfect lighting.” 👇🏻

One of the biggest challenges with natural light is inconsistency—
skin tones can shift depending on shade, surroundings, and even reflections (hello green grass 👀).

That’s why I use off-camera flash, even outside.

It helps create:
✅ consistent skin tones
✅ balanced lighting
✅ a cleaner, more polished final image

So instead of guessing what the light is doing…
I’m controlling it.

You don’t need the most expensive gear to be a good photographer.

When I first started, I thought I needed everything—top-tier camera, expensive lighting, all of it.

The reality?

A solid camera and a good lens will take you a long way.

If you’re just starting out, keep it simple:
✨ A versatile zoom lens (24–70mm or 70–200mm)
✨ Gear you can rely on and learn inside and out

And when it comes to lighting—especially outdoors—don’t overinvest too early.

Wind happens. Gear gets knocked over. Things break.

Light is light.

Focus on learning how to use what you have before worrying about upgrading everything.
