CURE Magazine recognizes and honors the oncology nurses that make healing and hope a possibility. A special publication called Extraordinary Healers tells the story.

With the Extraordinary Healer® Award for Oncology Nursing, we at CURE® present our readers with a unique opportunity each year to honor oncology nurses who have helped guide them through the cancer experience. This year, many patients, survivors, caregivers and health professionals submitted inspirational essays describing the compassion, expertise and helpfulness that special nurses exhibited. We have compiled their tributes into Extraordinary Healers: CURE® Readers Honor Oncology Nurses, Volume 11, which celebrates the extraordinary men and women who make a difference in patients’ lives. Coupled with exquisite photography, these moving stories of oncology nurses are told in CURE® readers’ own words.

Carol and Deborah

Carol and Deborah didn’t know each other before Deborah was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now they know each other well. These two women walked the journey of cancer treatment together and Deborah is now in recovery. She still deals with pain but is strong and healthy. When we met for the photo session at MD Anderson, they embraced each other like long lost friends. They caught up on news of their families and shared the aches and pains of everyday life. But it is a life that Deborah has now thanks to the care and love provided by her special oncology nurse. Carol has been promoted to nurse manager and continues to develop other nurses with the same passion.
