Start Senior Year with Something Exceptional – Fall Senior Portraits

Senior year is full of moments you’ll never forget—and capturing those moments is one of the greatest joys of what I do. As a parent, I know how quickly this year goes by. One minute you’re buying school supplies, and the next you’re ordering a cap and gown. That’s why I created the Exceptional Senior Session, and why I believe Fall Senior Portraits are the best way to kick off this unforgettable year.

With the Exceptional Session, you don’t have to squeeze everything into one rushed appointment. Instead, we spread the experience out across two thoughtfully planned sessions—one in the fall and one in the spring. This allows us to tell the full story of your senior’s final year, from the start of their final chapter to the exciting finish.

What Makes Fall Senior Portraits So Important?

Fall is a magical time for portraits. The weather is gorgeous (especially here in Texas, once we’ve survived summer), the light is golden, and your senior is just beginning to step into this important season of life. Fall senior portraits capture that anticipation—the confidence, the excitement, and sometimes even a little nervous energy. It’s the beginning of the journey, and it deserves its own spotlight.

And here’s the practical side: most schools have yearbook deadlines in the fall. Some are quite early—The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, for example, requires photos much earlier than many parents expect. By scheduling fall senior portraits now, you’re making sure you’re ahead of those deadlines, with plenty of time to choose the perfect photo and avoid last-minute stress.

The Exceptional Senior Session: A Full-Year Experience

The Exceptional Senior Session includes two separate sessions—one in the fall and one in the spring—so your senior gets the full experience, and you get images that truly reflect who they are throughout the year.

In the fall, we’ll take time to photograph your senior in natural light, at a location that fits their personality. This session can include outfit changes, meaningful props, and even family members if you’d like to make it a shared moment. I’ve had parents, siblings, and grandparents join in—and let me tell you, those multi-generational shots are some of my absolute favorites.

Then, in the spring, we meet again. This session is all about celebration. Caps, gowns, college t-shirts, signs—it’s your senior’s time to shine in the glow of all they’ve achieved. The contrast between the fall and spring portraits is powerful and emotional, and it’s such a beautiful way to capture their growth.

Seniors can include their family in some photos during their senior portrait session.

Jesus’s Exceptional Session: A Personal Highlight

One of my favorite Exceptional Senior Sessions was with Jesus, a senior who chose to include his family in the fall portion of his shoot. His mom and grandparents came along, and it turned into such a joyful, heartwarming session. We laughed, took our time, and captured images that now mean the world to all of them.

In the spring, Jesus came back for a solo session—this time in a suit, his graduation cap and gown, and his Baylor University t-shirt (which made me extra proud, since Baylor is my alma mater!). The final gallery told the story of his senior year beautifully, and it was an honor to be part of that.

Why Book Fall Senior Portraits Now?

The truth is, fall senior portraits require early planning. My fall calendar fills quickly, especially for seniors booking Exceptional Sessions. By getting on the calendar now, you’ll not only secure a prime date, but you’ll also give your family time to plan outfits, choose locations, and make the most of this experience.

I want every senior and their family to feel relaxed, celebrated, and confident during their sessions. That only happens when we give ourselves time—and that starts with booking early.

Honestly… a little bit of everything. 📸

From professional headshots and personal branding to senior portraits and family sessions, I love creating photos that help people and businesses tell their story.

And there’s plenty more I can help with, too—large team group composites, in-office headshots for teams with different schedules, acting and modeling headshots, office branding, and more.

Basically, if you need photos for yourself, your family, or your business, let’s talk about what you have in mind. I’ll help you figure out the best way to make it happen.

📸 Not sure where to start? Book a consultation with me through the link in my bio.
Money may not buy happiness, but having photos of your family to look back on years from now? That’s pretty priceless. 🤍

Fall family portrait season is here, and I have a few weekend dates still available (spots are filling fast!) 👇🏻

September 20
October 3, 10, & 17
November 7 & 15

If you’ve been meaning to update the family photos, document this season, or get those holiday card photos checked off your list, this is your sign to get on the calendar.

And once you book, I’ll make sure you’re not left wondering what to wear, where we’re going, what to bring, or what to expect. My Family Session Welcome Guide walks you through everything you need to know to feel prepared for your session. (linked in my bio)

I’m gonna let you in on my secret… 👀

These are the camera settings I use as my starting point when I’m shooting during golden hour:

☀️ APERTURE
For one person: f/2.8–f/3.2
For families or groups: f/5.6

A wider aperture gives you that beautiful separation and soft background when you’re photographing one person. With a group, I stop down to help keep everyone in focus.

☀️ SHUTTER SPEED
I start around 1/160 sec—but if I have kids running, a couple moving around, or anything else with more movement, I’ll increase my shutter speed to keep everything sharp.

☀️ ISO
ISO 400 is my starting point, and then I adjust up or down depending on how much light I have.

The biggest thing to remember? These aren’t magic numbers you have to use every time.

Golden hour changes quickly, and your settings should change with it. Use these as a starting point, watch your light, and adjust for the people and movement in front of your camera.

And if you’re building your photography kit and wondering what gear is actually worth investing in, I put together my Photographer’s Gear Guide with the cameras, lenses, lighting, and equipment I use in my own business.

Class of 2027, the clock is ticking! 🎓📸

Yearbook deadlines are getting closer, which means there’s not much time left to get those fall senior portraits on the calendar.

Senior photos are about so much more than checking a yearbook photo off the list. This is your chance to capture their personality, style, interests, and who they are during one of the biggest years of their life.

If senior portraits are still sitting on your fall to-do list, this is your sign to get them booked!

One of my favorite things about on-location sessions is getting to step into a client’s space and create images that actually feel connected to their business.

We can capture updated headshots, team photos, working shots, office details, and plenty of branding content—all without your team having to leave the office.

A lot goes into a shoot day, but this is the fun part: turning an ordinary workday into a whole new library of images for your brand.
