Start Senior Year with Something Exceptional – Fall Senior Portraits

Senior year is full of moments you’ll never forget—and capturing those moments is one of the greatest joys of what I do. As a parent, I know how quickly this year goes by. One minute you’re buying school supplies, and the next you’re ordering a cap and gown. That’s why I created the Exceptional Senior Session, and why I believe Fall Senior Portraits are the best way to kick off this unforgettable year.

With the Exceptional Session, you don’t have to squeeze everything into one rushed appointment. Instead, we spread the experience out across two thoughtfully planned sessions—one in the fall and one in the spring. This allows us to tell the full story of your senior’s final year, from the start of their final chapter to the exciting finish.

What Makes Fall Senior Portraits So Important?

Fall is a magical time for portraits. The weather is gorgeous (especially here in Texas, once we’ve survived summer), the light is golden, and your senior is just beginning to step into this important season of life. Fall senior portraits capture that anticipation—the confidence, the excitement, and sometimes even a little nervous energy. It’s the beginning of the journey, and it deserves its own spotlight.

And here’s the practical side: most schools have yearbook deadlines in the fall. Some are quite early—The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, for example, requires photos much earlier than many parents expect. By scheduling fall senior portraits now, you’re making sure you’re ahead of those deadlines, with plenty of time to choose the perfect photo and avoid last-minute stress.

The Exceptional Senior Session: A Full-Year Experience

The Exceptional Senior Session includes two separate sessions—one in the fall and one in the spring—so your senior gets the full experience, and you get images that truly reflect who they are throughout the year.

In the fall, we’ll take time to photograph your senior in natural light, at a location that fits their personality. This session can include outfit changes, meaningful props, and even family members if you’d like to make it a shared moment. I’ve had parents, siblings, and grandparents join in—and let me tell you, those multi-generational shots are some of my absolute favorites.

Then, in the spring, we meet again. This session is all about celebration. Caps, gowns, college t-shirts, signs—it’s your senior’s time to shine in the glow of all they’ve achieved. The contrast between the fall and spring portraits is powerful and emotional, and it’s such a beautiful way to capture their growth.

Seniors can include their family in some photos during their senior portrait session.

Jesus’s Exceptional Session: A Personal Highlight

One of my favorite Exceptional Senior Sessions was with Jesus, a senior who chose to include his family in the fall portion of his shoot. His mom and grandparents came along, and it turned into such a joyful, heartwarming session. We laughed, took our time, and captured images that now mean the world to all of them.

In the spring, Jesus came back for a solo session—this time in a suit, his graduation cap and gown, and his Baylor University t-shirt (which made me extra proud, since Baylor is my alma mater!). The final gallery told the story of his senior year beautifully, and it was an honor to be part of that.

Why Book Fall Senior Portraits Now?

The truth is, fall senior portraits require early planning. My fall calendar fills quickly, especially for seniors booking Exceptional Sessions. By getting on the calendar now, you’ll not only secure a prime date, but you’ll also give your family time to plan outfits, choose locations, and make the most of this experience.

I want every senior and their family to feel relaxed, celebrated, and confident during their sessions. That only happens when we give ourselves time—and that starts with booking early.

It’s never just pressing a button.

It’s reading the room.
Adjusting in real time.
Knowing how to bring out confidence—even when someone feels uncomfortable in front of the camera.

The technical side matters.
But the connection, the instinct, and the ability to see what others don’t… that’s what turns it into something more.

Come along with me as I set up for a headshot + branding session 👇🏻

When you’re just getting started, it’s easy to think you need all the gear before you can take on client work.

You don’t.

For in-office headshots, a solid setup really comes down to a few essentials:
✅ reliable lighting
✅ a strong lens
✅ a backdrop
✅ reflectors to help control light and keep skin tones consistent

That’s how I’m able to create clean, professional headshots—without being in a studio.

And for branding? That’s where I shift.

Instead of a backdrop, I’m using the client’s space—capturing environmental images that feel more natural, personal, and aligned with their business.

Same session, two different approaches—both intentional.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about having more gear…
it’s about knowing how to use what you have.

If your brand hasn’t been updated this year… this might be your sign 👇🏻

Summer is one of the best times to refresh your branding imagery—and most people don’t take advantage of it.

Things tend to slow down just enough to step back and actually look at what your brand is communicating.

And for a lot of businesses, this is when it becomes clear:
→ the photos don’t match the level you’re operating at anymore

A mid-year refresh isn’t about starting over—it’s about making sure your visuals reflect where you are now, not where you were a year ago.

But before you even book new photos… you need clarity.

What do you want your brand to feel like?
How do you want to show up?

That’s exactly why I created my Brand Personality Workbook—to help you define that first, so your photos actually align.

📥 Grab it through the link in my bio, and then let’s plan your next session.
Shooting outdoors doesn’t always mean “perfect lighting.” 👇🏻

One of the biggest challenges with natural light is inconsistency—
skin tones can shift depending on shade, surroundings, and even reflections (hello green grass 👀).

That’s why I use off-camera flash, even outside.

It helps create:
✅ consistent skin tones
✅ balanced lighting
✅ a cleaner, more polished final image

So instead of guessing what the light is doing…
I’m controlling it.

📥 If you’re a photographer trying to figure out lighting + gear, I’ve put together a guide with the setups I actually use—link in bio.
