Baptism Celebration
In the Catholic tradition, the baptism of a baby or young child is a celebration! It is a rite of passage and a welcoming of that child into a community of love, support, and faith. The family gathers for this special occasion including grandparents, Godparents, family, and friends. During the ritual, they stand in support of this tiny human and vow to help raise him or her in the faith. Really, though, it’s about love. They love this child so much that they commit themselves to providing love and support for the lifelong journey. It is an incredible thing to witness! It is a beautiful gift to the child and to the parents who see that they are not alone in raising this child. They have support and love that will last a lifetime.
John’s Baptism
I had the honor and pleasure of photographing John’s baptism. There were four boys baptized that day. Some young and some a little older. And one that definitely didn’t want to be there at all. But he made it through. There was laughter and celebration and a commitment to loving and supporting John on his life journey. Afterwards, we took family portraits with everyone. And we celebrated with a beautiful lunch where the family could be together and shower John with more love and attention. I absolutely adore one of the final images from this day: it is of John and his mom having a quiet moment together. She holds him in an embrace that exudes love. May we all feel surrounded by love like that!
