Senior Portrait Tips for Guys

Senior portrait sessions are a lot of fun! For guys, a laid-back and fun session can be easy with a few tips!

Plan wardrobe ahead of time and make sure everything fits, down to the shoes. I like to start with a more formal look and move to more casual. That way, the formal stuff can be put away after we get those few fantastic dressy shots.
Incorporate something into the session that makes you, you. Whether it’s something that you wear all the time or a hobby, sport, or instrument, bring it to the session. This makes it personal and totally represent you.
Relax and enjoy the session. The more you relax and have fun with it, the better the images. Then you can post all of those amazing images on social media.

Session with Zachary

My session with Zachary was fantastic. We started with a formal look with khakis and blazer. I loved this look and he rocked it with that flash of a smile. Next, he changed into his ROTC shirt. He is a leader in the group at school and is proud of his involvement in this group. And I like the way the khakis and dark green shirt blended beautifully with the background. At the end, he changed one last time into his favorite hoodie that he wears just about every day, Mom said. So, it’s truly him…the Buffalo Bills sweatshirt. We couldn’t finish the session without a few images with his car too…which Dad absolutely adored! All my best Zachary in whatever life holds for you next.

If you`re wondering whether you should reschedule your headshot session, here`s the breakdown:

✨ DO reschedule if:

You`re feeling under the weather 🤧 (no one wants to spread germs or push through when you`re not at your best)

You have a facial rash, skin peeling, or excessive puffiness that affects your overall comfort and confidence

🚫 DON’T stress or reschedule for:

A shaving nick
A breakout or blemish
Puffy eyes or dark circles
Forehead lines or wrinkles
Cold sores or minor irritation

🧼 I’ve got you covered when it comes to light retouching—my editing style enhances without overdoing it. You’ll still look like YOU, just the best version.

📸 Now, let’s talk prep:

✔️ Men: Schedule a haircut a few days before your session (not the day-of!)

✔️ Ladies: Make sure your hair is cut, colored, and styled—I’ve got hair + makeup covered for Executive Headshots if you want to take the stress off!

✔️ Wardrobe: Try on your outfit ahead of time—fit and comfort are key

✔️ Night before: Get a good night’s sleep & hydrate for that natural glow
