What to Wear for Headshots
Choosing what to wear for your headshot session is very important and it’s probably the hardest part of preparing for the headshot session. At Tara Flannery Photography, we will help you along the way to choose the best outfit for your headshots. In fact, we recommend bringing several options to your session so that we can decide together on the best choices. What you wear will depend on the type of position and job that you hold. Start with what you wear every day to work. Decide if you’d like the headshot to be more formal (dark suit) or more casual (solid color top). Or bring both options to have one of each (think LinkedIn versus Facebook). Depending on the formality of the headshot, we will decide on a background as well. We’ll choose tones in the same range of lightness or darkness for clothing as the background. In order to maintain the focus of the headshot on the face, we will want the clothing and background to play a background role – supportive but not overpowering.
Headshots for Michele
Michele contacted me for new headshots. She brought several options for wardrobe. We started with the grey suit and purple blouse. On the medium gray background, these choices play well together. But then we tried the darker suit on the same background and we both loved the results! The darker suit played more of a background role and allowed Michele to shine and brought the attention more to her face. Our last option was a black suite with a subtle stripe that we paired with the natural light setup with a blue/grey background. Again, I loved the results because the focus of the image goes to her face and the background and wardrobe play a supporting role. All my best Michele, with your new headshots!
