Tis the Season for Family Portraits

The Christmas season is upon us and it’s a busy time of year. The hustle and bustle of end-of-year gatherings and wrapping up work projects and school activities is almost more than we can handle. But it’s important to take time to get those family portraits done. Amid the chaos is the beauty of our lives. When we take a moment to be together as family, we can stop time for just this once. That moment is captured forever and when it hangs on the walls of your home, it reminds us of our center. Life is crazy but family keeps us together. It holds us and supports us like nothing else can. Your blood family or your chosen family or your family of fur-babies…whatever family is for you, cherish those relationships and let’s create something beautiful to remind you every single day.

But I always tell my clients, “this is very GQ.”

If you don’t know—GQ stands for Gentlemen’s Quarterly, a men’s fashion magazine known for clean, confident, classic poses.

And honestly… it’s still one of the best references for men’s headshots.

One of my go-to poses?

👉🏻 Both hands in the pockets

It instantly:
• relaxes your posture
• creates a natural stance
• gives a confident, polished look

Other simple poses that always work:

🌟 One hand in pocket, one relaxed
🌟 Arms crossed (strong, leadership feel)
🌟 Hands together in front (calm, professional)
🌟 Leaning against a wall (more casual, modern)
🌟 Seated (approachable and grounded)

And no matter the pose, the small details matter:

✔️ Slight angle in the body (don’t face the camera straight on)
✔️ Relaxed shoulders
✔️ Subtle lean toward the camera

Nothing complicated—just small adjustments that completely change how you show up on camera.
