How to welcome clients with your headshot

Owning a small business is a challenge because, as the owner, you wear many hats.  You have to master your craft and all the other aspects of doing business.  One of these tasks is marketing.  Marketing yourself and your brand means connecting with clients.  Many times, the first connection with a client is through your website or a social media platform.  It’s imperative that your first connection be professional – it sets the tone for the relationship.

Everything from the location, background, clothing and lighting play a role in conveying a welcome to your clients.  If your brand has a more formal style, you might want a darker background with a suit.  On the other hand, if your brand is more casual, you might want a lighter background and a simple top.  At Tara Flannery Photography, we will make all of these decisions with you to convey the perfect message for your company.  The headshot will fit seamlessly with your brand.

Headshots for Tara

Tara is a licensed professional counselor and certified group psychotherapist with her own business, Thrive Psychotherapy in The Woodlands.  She wanted an updated headshot that provided a bright, warm welcome for her clients.  I love the resulting environmental headshots that we took in her home.  They are bright, clean, and welcoming.  I love this statement on her website and see this reflected in her headshots.  “I am committed to creating a safe, non judgemental and accepting space for my clients to reflect, heal, and ultimately learn the therapeutic tools that will help them conquer life’s challenges and to truly thrive.”

This is why good branding photos feel different 👇🏻

A strong session isn’t just about showing up and taking a few pictures.

It’s about direction.
It’s about intention.
It’s about creating images you can actually use across your business.

The end result should feel aligned—like your photos finally match the level you’re operating at now.

But here’s the part most people skip…
Before you ever step in front of the camera, you need clarity on your brand.

✅ What do you want your brand to feel like?
✅ How do you want to show up?

That’s exactly why I created my Brand Personality Workbook—to help you define that first so your photos actually work for you.

📥 Grab it through the link in my bio, then let’s plan your session.
It’s funny… people assume I’m just showing up, taking photos, and moving on.

But in reality, I’m rooting for my clients long after the session is over.

Hoping they feel more confident.
Hoping they land the opportunity.
Hoping their photos help them show up the way they’ve been wanting to.

Because it’s never just about the pictures.

📩 If you’re ready for photos that actually support where you’re going, you can book through the link in my bio.
You don’t just get a few photos…

You get a full set of images you can actually use—
for your website, your content, your launches, and everything in between.

Because as a coach, you are your brand.
And the way you show up visually matters more than most people realize.

My goal isn’t just to take good photos—
it’s to help you feel confident, natural, and aligned in how you present yourself.

📩 If you’ve been putting off branding photos, this is your sign—link in bio to start planning.
Mid-session. Camera in hand. Client in front of me…
and suddenly my camera starts throwing error codes.

I turn it off. Pull the battery. Take the card out.
Put everything back in and hope it works again.

And then it happens again.

Three memory cards failed on me during that shoot.

After that, I switched to Sony Tough cards—and haven’t had an issue since.

It’s one of those things you don’t think about… until you’re in a high-pressure moment and your gear has to perform.

📥 If you’re a photographer and want a breakdown of the gear I actually use and trust, I’ve put together a guide—link in bio.

👇🏼 But I'm curious, what cards have been working for you?
