Small Business Branding

When running a small business, you have to do it all!  You wear all of the hats.  Your business can benefit from a branding session for all of the marketing needed to run a small business.  Here are a few ways that you can use branding photography:

  1. Website: show customers what the owners, store, staff, and products look like

    2. Contact Page
    3. Home Page
    4. Product/Service Page
    5. Sales Page

  2. Marketing: create rack cards, advertisements, and business cards with actual images and not stock
  3. Social media: integrate professional photography into your social media strategy; update your profile image
  4. Blog updates: incorporate photos with your page updates or on a guest blog

Just one branding session can result in a portfolio of images that you can use throughout the year.

Recent Branding Sessions

Missy is starting a small business helping other business owners with their Pinterest account.  She selected a branding session so that she would have a variety of images to use for her new website.  We had so much fun and her daughter came along to help!

When you’re just getting started, it’s easy to think you need all the gear before you can take on client work.

You don’t.

For in-office headshots, a solid setup really comes down to a few essentials:
✅ reliable lighting
✅ a strong lens
✅ a backdrop
✅ reflectors to help control light and keep skin tones consistent

That’s how I’m able to create clean, professional headshots—without being in a studio.

And for branding? That’s where I shift.

Instead of a backdrop, I’m using the client’s space—capturing environmental images that feel more natural, personal, and aligned with their business.

Same session, two different approaches—both intentional.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about having more gear…
it’s about knowing how to use what you have.

Shooting outdoors doesn’t always mean “perfect lighting.” 👇🏻

One of the biggest challenges with natural light is inconsistency—
skin tones can shift depending on shade, surroundings, and even reflections (hello green grass 👀).

That’s why I use off-camera flash, even outside.

It helps create:
✅ consistent skin tones
✅ balanced lighting
✅ a cleaner, more polished final image

So instead of guessing what the light is doing…
I’m controlling it.
