How to Choose a Headshot Photographer

When searching for someone to take your headshots, here are a few tips for the best experience.

  1. Research the photographer.  What, if any, degrees or certifications do they hold?  While degrees don’t mean everything, they do ensure that the photographer has proven proficiency in both technical and aesthetic skills to produce consistent, high-quality images.  The photographer has shown that he or she can use lighting, posing, and expression to create the most flattering portrait.
  2. Research for style.  Take a look at the headshots on the photographer’s website.  This should be an indication of the style of headshot that you will receive.  Is it more formal or casual?  Studio or natural-light?  Light or dark.  What is the attention to detail?  Does the photographer show a range of headshots?
  3. Know what you’re getting.  If the photographer lists pricing, what does that include (time, number of images, retouching, wardrobe changes, etc.)? One pricing model is not necessarily better than another but photographers operate on different models so be sure you’re comparing apples to apples.
  4. Timing is key.  Ask the photographer about timing and turnaround for your headshots.  If you need something quickly, be sure that the photographer can get you in and have images turned around in the timeframe that you’ll need.
  5. Personality is golden.  More than anything, you should feel comfortable with your photographer.  Trust and friendliness with your photographer go a long way toward a great headshot.  Why?  Because your own confidence will show through in the images when you have a good relationship with your photographer.  Think about how your own personality shines when you’re talking to your best friend or family member.  That sparkle will make a fantastic headshot!

Come spend a headshot + branding day with me! 📸

One of my favorite things about on-location sessions is getting to step into a client’s space and create images that actually feel connected to their business.

We can capture updated headshots, team photos, working shots, office details, and plenty of branding content—all without your team having to leave the office.

A lot goes into a shoot day, but this is the fun part: turning an ordinary workday into a whole new library of images for your brand.

If your kids are still living under your roof, take the photos. 🤍

You hear people say you only get 18 summers with your kids, and now that mine are grown, I understand just how quickly those years really go. Once college, work, relationships, and their own schedules enter the picture, getting everyone together at the same time gets a whole lot harder.

So don’t wait for the “perfect” year for family portraits. Document the family you have right now—the missing teeth, growth spurts, changing personalities, and even the little bit of chaos that comes with it.

Because one day, getting everyone in the same place for a family photo might be the hardest part.

🍂 Fall Family Portrait Weekend Availability:

September 20
October 3, 10, & 17
November 7 & 15

If family portraits have been on your list, grab one of my remaining fall dates before they’re gone.

Fall family portrait season is officially here! 🍂

My current weekend availability is listed above. Save your date before someone else grabs it! 🤍

CURRENT WEEKEND AVAILABILITY:
📅 September 20th
📅 October 3rd
📅 October 17th
📅 October 24th
📅 November 7th
📅 November 15th

Whether you’re updating the family photos on your walls, planning ahead for holiday cards, or simply realizing it’s been way too long since everyone was in the same photo… I’d love to document this season for you. 🤍

And remember—the kids aren’t going to look exactly like this next year. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time.

I put it together to help you plan your session—from what to wear and what to bring to all the little details that make your photos feel like you. Grab it through the link in my bio!

And one thing I always encourage seniors to think about? Don’t document just one moment of senior year.

So much changes between the beginning of the school year and graduation.

Fall is about who you are right now—your personality, interests, style, sports, hobbies, and everything that made these last four years yours.

By spring, the focus starts shifting toward what’s next—college decisions, future plans, and all the excitement that comes with finishing senior year.

And then comes the cap and gown. 🎓 The final milestone before one chapter officially closes and another begins.

Senior year goes FAST. Take the photos. 🤍
