Business headshots can be all sorts of things for different people. Your headshot can be as unique as you are. First, start with framing your business and identifying your direction. Brand identity is more than a pretty logo and matching colors. It’s culture, goals, and providing value for customers. Next, do the hard work of defining your ideal customer and identifying ways to connect with that customer. Part of connecting with customers is putting yourself as the face of the business. Headshots do more than occupy the profile picture on your Facebook account. Finally, schedule a professional headshot: it can be your first and fantastic introduction to your customer. I have photographed most, if not all, of the psychologists at Connections Child and Family Center in The Woodlands. What a great group of truly caring individuals! Collectively, they make a talented team of counselors, ready to help you tackle life and navigate the issues that you’re facing. As the team grows, we add members. The two newest members are Amanda and Elisa. I had the pleasure of meeting them and photographing them this week! After they had hair and makeup services with the very talented Roxana Phillips, they were ready for their outdoor headshots. What beautiful ladies inside and out! All my best in your new team!

If you’re just starting a photography business… you need to watch this.

I recently showed up to a headshot session at an office building with all my gear—ready to go—and security wouldn’t let me in.

Not because anything was wrong… but because there was a miscommunication, and I didn’t have a certificate of insurance on file with the building.

It’s one of those things you don’t think about when you’re first starting out—but it matters.

As you grow and start booking more corporate or on-location sessions, these small admin details become part of the job.

Clear communication with your client (or their admin team) ahead of time can save you a lot of stress on shoot day.
