Why Headshots for Internal Resources?

Why Have Headshots for Internal Resources?

Larger companies have internal resources for communicating via calls, pings, texts, and messages. These systems use a photo to let the “caller” know who is on the other end. Sometimes you talk to the same people over and over. You know who they are. Sometimes you talk to someone new in the company. Isn’t it nice to put a face to a name – it’s more personal. People do business with people. The ability to see a photo of the person you’re talking to is invaluable in making a connection with that person and relating to them. It’s also important that the photo in this system is properly lit, posed, and focused. If the photo is too light or too dark, you won’t be able to see the person clearly. Similarly, if the photo is awkward or blurry, you won’t be able to see a true representation of that person. Professional headshots are a great tool for your internal resources and thus the ability for employees to connect on a more personal level.

Headshots for Motiva

After several headshot sessions with Motiva, the latest session included the largest number of people yet. In order to capture entire groups within the company, I set up my lighting equipment and background in the common area for headshots. During this first day of shooting, I captured roughly 130 people for headshots. We will have another day of shooting in order to complete the two main groups. Each person has a time in front of the camera and then can see the images right away and choose the best one. If something needs adjustment, we do that and shoot again. I want everyone to be happy with their headshot before I move on to another person. Motiva’s various groups will have professional headshots for their organizational chart and internal resources. Employees will be able to see each other clearly and create relationships based on a professional image.

One of the sweetest parts of being a photographer? Getting to watch families grow right in front of my camera. 🤍

I’ve had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family several times over the years, and now their family has grown to include three sweet kiddos!

It’s so special to look back at previous sessions and see just how much has changed. New little faces, growing personalities, and so many memories made along the way.

And honestly, this is one of my favorite things about what I do.

I have families who come back year after year for updated portraits. I’ve photographed kids as they grow up, celebrated their senior year with them, and even welcomed some of those same familiar faces back for professional headshots as they begin their careers.

Getting to be a small part of all those different chapters in someone’s life is something I’ll never take for granted.

Because these aren’t just photos. They’re little pieces of your family’s story that you get to hold onto forever. 🤍

And to every family who continues to trust me with those memories, thank you. It truly means so much!

That beautiful sunlight filtering through the trees? It can actually make your job a little harder. 😂📸

When I`m photographing families or seniors in wooded locations, one of the first things I`m looking for is consistent, even lighting.

Those little patches of sunlight coming through the trees (also called dappled light) might look pretty in person, but they can create distracting bright spots across your subject`s face, skin, and clothing.

Here are a few things I keep in mind when shooting in wooded areas:

🌳 Look for solid shade. I want my subjects evenly lit rather than having random patches of harsh sunlight hitting different parts of their bodies.

☀️ Use backlighting to your advantage. When the light is right, I love positioning the sun behind my subjects to create that beautiful, soft glow around their hair and shoulders.

📸 Don`t forget your lens hood! Shooting toward the sun can introduce unwanted lens flare and reduce contrast. A lens hood can help control some of that stray light while still allowing you to create beautiful backlit portraits.

And remember, just because a location is beautiful doesn`t mean every spot within it has great lighting!

Learning to recognize good light is just as important as knowing your camera settings.

When I'm photographing families or seniors in wooded locations, one of the first things I'm looking for is consistent, even lighting.
