Executive Headshots for Newfield Exploration

Newfield Exploration, located in The Woodlands, hires me for executive headshots. For this session, we had four new executives that needed headshots. My hair and makeup artist started working her magic before I arrived. I set up my background and lighting equipment in the office while she worked. The executives sat for a portrait and were able to quickly return to work. With professional hair and makeup, a little retouching, lighting, and posing, we were able to get some really polished headshots for these executives. Newfield will add these headshots to the leadership page on their website.

Why Professional Makeup is a Good Idea for Headshots

For this headshot session, the client hired my hair and makeup artist to ensure everyone was camera-ready. I highly recommend a makeup artist for headshots. Why? I use studio lighting for headshots that can affect the image in two ways. First, it can make you look a little washed out. So you’ll want a slightly heavier application of makeup than you normally wear. The makeup artist is familiar with this lighting and will know the right application. Second, the lighting can accentuate any shine on the skin. A professional makeup artist will ensure that the makeup is very matte, removing all of the shine. Hiring a professional makeup artist is completely optional for my headshot sessions but I do recommend it if at all possible. Men and women can benefit from a makeup artist. For men, the makeup application is focused on removing shine and evening out the skin tone.

Headshots and branding photos… aren`t they basically the same thing? 📸

Not quite! While both are meant to represent you professionally, they serve different purposes.

Professional headshots are typically more traditional and polished. Think head-and-shoulders portraits with a clean studio backdrop or a professional office setting. They`re perfect for LinkedIn profiles, company websites, business cards, and anywhere you need a professional first impression.

Branding photography, on the other hand, tells a bigger story!

We`re talking full-body portraits, candid moments, interactive shots, and photos of you doing what you do best. Branding sessions can absolutely include headshots, too, but often with more personality and environmental elements that reflect your business.

The biggest difference? A headshot shows people who you are. Branding photography helps show them what you do and what it`s like to work with you.

And depending on your business and goals, you might benefit from both!

One of the sweetest parts of being a photographer? Getting to watch families grow right in front of my camera. 🤍

I’ve had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family several times over the years, and now their family has grown to include three sweet kiddos!

It’s so special to look back at previous sessions and see just how much has changed. New little faces, growing personalities, and so many memories made along the way.

And honestly, this is one of my favorite things about what I do.

I have families who come back year after year for updated portraits. I’ve photographed kids as they grow up, celebrated their senior year with them, and even welcomed some of those same familiar faces back for professional headshots as they begin their careers.

Getting to be a small part of all those different chapters in someone’s life is something I’ll never take for granted.

Because these aren’t just photos. They’re little pieces of your family’s story that you get to hold onto forever. 🤍

And to every family who continues to trust me with those memories, thank you. It truly means so much!
