Environmental vs Studio Headshots

Part of planning for your headshot session involves deciding on location and background.  This is an important consideration because it sets the tone for your headshots.  First, decide if you want a more formal look or a little more casual.  The session can also be anything in between.  Next, decide on a location.

The Studio Session: Do you need a formal headshot for the company?  Does it need to match other headshots that already exist within the company?  Do you need an image that has a clean background that can be used in various marketing materials?  Then a studio session is probably what we need to accomplish this.

The Branding Session or Environmental: Do you own your own small business?  Do you have a clean slate for images for your company?  Are you re-designing your website and need updated images to take advantage of the new look?  Perhaps a branding session or environmental session is right for you.  Even with environmental headshots, consistency is key when we are photographing an entire team.  In order to ensure consistency and repeatability, we can photograph individuals and replace the background.  This also works for offices that may not lend themselves to the look that you’d like for the environmental shot.
