Coordinating Outfits for Family Pictures
Planning for your family’s portrait session doesn’t need to be stressful! With a few tips and a little planning, coordinating outfits can be simple and fun! Check out my Pinterest page for ideas on family outfits.
- Pick a general color scheme. Remember that you’ll likely be in a natural setting with lots of greens and browns. Greens and blues against this natural backdrop. A fall color scheme with neutrals like brown, khaki, orange, and cranberry look great in nature. We don’t want everyone to match but rather coordinate with colors to create harmony.
- Begin choosing outfits with the person who has the fewest clothing options. My daughter and I like to coordinate our outfits first and then the boys can find something to fit into the general color scheme with a polo and jeans.
- Use lots of layers and vary the colors on tops and bottoms.
- Dress everyone to the toes! Those shoes can really throw you off if you don’t plan ahead. Don’t choose shoes while you’re walking out the door!
Finally, don’t stress over the outfits! The point of the session is to be together and to remember the love and connections that you share with each other. We will see that in the images when you can relax and have fun with your family. That’s much more important than the perfectly coordinated outfits.
