A Family Photographer from Tip to Toe

When you take your car to the mechanic or hire a person to clean your home, you expect the service to be completed from top to bottom or from tip to toe.  A great service experience answers all of your questions before you have even thought to ask them.  And it covers the entire process through completion and beyond.  I believe that your family portrait experience should be like this.  We begin with a consultation that allows us to get to know each other.  It’s an opportunity to learn about your family and why we’re photographing your family at this moment in time.  What do you envision as the end result of the family portraits?  Next, the photo session will be stress-free because we’ve already discussed wardrobe, location, and poses.  Finally, the installation of your brand new family portraits brings the experience to completion.  I’ll check in to make sure everything looks good and to let you know that I’ll be here long after this experience to help as anything arises.

Why hire a photographer who prints?

While there are some extremely good consumer labs, there are several things to consider when printing family portraits where a professional photographer can help.

  1. Placement or location of the final portraits.  Do you have a wall or space that could use updated portraits?  Maybe one needs to be replaced or maybe you have a blank wall?  A professional photographer can assist you with location that makes sense for each portrait.
  2. Size of the printed portraits.  With special software, a professional photographer can show you the brand new portraits on the actual walls of your home.  Because the software calibrates the sizing, it’s easy to see exactly what size or sizes of portraits will be perfect for your space.
  3. Crops and wraps.  Sometimes canvas gallery wraps need to be extended in order to cover the sides.  Have you ever printed a canvas gallery wrap and someone’s feet get cut off?  Same thing with an 8×10 print.  Depending on the image, the 8×10 crop may significantly cut into an image.  Your photographer can tell you which images will be best suited for this size print or adjust the image accordingly.
  4. Color.  Sometimes printing at a non-professional lab can result in color casts (think blue, green, or red casts) that can ruin the print altogether.

I hope that you’ll consider a photographer who will handle your family portraits with care and provide excellent service from tip to toe.

Come spend a headshot + branding day with me! 📸

One of my favorite things about on-location sessions is getting to step into a client’s space and create images that actually feel connected to their business.

We can capture updated headshots, team photos, working shots, office details, and plenty of branding content—all without your team having to leave the office.

A lot goes into a shoot day, but this is the fun part: turning an ordinary workday into a whole new library of images for your brand.

If your kids are still living under your roof, take the photos. 🤍

You hear people say you only get 18 summers with your kids, and now that mine are grown, I understand just how quickly those years really go. Once college, work, relationships, and their own schedules enter the picture, getting everyone together at the same time gets a whole lot harder.

So don’t wait for the “perfect” year for family portraits. Document the family you have right now—the missing teeth, growth spurts, changing personalities, and even the little bit of chaos that comes with it.

Because one day, getting everyone in the same place for a family photo might be the hardest part.

🎓 Planning senior photos? Start with my Senior Session Guide!

I put it together to help you plan your session—from what to wear and what to bring to all the little details that make your photos feel like you. Grab it through the link in my bio!

And one thing I always encourage seniors to think about? Don’t document just one moment of senior year.

So much changes between the beginning of the school year and graduation.

Fall is about who you are right now—your personality, interests, style, sports, hobbies, and everything that made these last four years yours.

By spring, the focus starts shifting toward what’s next—college decisions, future plans, and all the excitement that comes with finishing senior year.

And then comes the cap and gown. 🎓 The final milestone before one chapter officially closes and another begins.

Senior year goes FAST. Take the photos. 🤍
