Headshots for Lawyers

Everyone needs a professional headshot.  But your occupation and your own personal style have a big impact on the look of the final image.  Lawyers, executive coaches, and other professionals want to appear confident and capable in their headshot.  Other professions, like realtors and insurance agents need to appear very friendly and approachable.  Your personal style, though, will also determine the outcome and look of the headshot.  Perhaps you are a lawyer but don’t want to appear as though you are stand-off-ish or unapproachable.  Everything from the background, wardrobe, posing, and expression have an impact on the message that you send in your headshot.  Discuss your preferences with your photographer so that you both know what you’re trying to accomplish in the headshot.

Dana Lim Law

Dana is a lawyer and needed an updated headshot.  She has small children and works whenever she’s not being a mom!  Although her profession would lean towards formal and overly confident, Dana’s personal style is much more approachable.  As a woman, a Mom, and a lawyer, she understands the needs of families.  Dana brings confidence and a welcoming nature to her family law practice serving Spring and The Woodlands.

Shooting outdoors doesn’t always mean “perfect lighting.” 👇🏻

One of the biggest challenges with natural light is inconsistency—
skin tones can shift depending on shade, surroundings, and even reflections (hello green grass 👀).

That’s why I use off-camera flash, even outside.

It helps create:
✅ consistent skin tones
✅ balanced lighting
✅ a cleaner, more polished final image

So instead of guessing what the light is doing…
I’m controlling it.

You don’t need the most expensive gear to be a good photographer.

When I first started, I thought I needed everything—top-tier camera, expensive lighting, all of it.

The reality?

A solid camera and a good lens will take you a long way.

If you’re just starting out, keep it simple:
✨ A versatile zoom lens (24–70mm or 70–200mm)
✨ Gear you can rely on and learn inside and out

And when it comes to lighting—especially outdoors—don’t overinvest too early.

Wind happens. Gear gets knocked over. Things break.

Light is light.

Focus on learning how to use what you have before worrying about upgrading everything.
