Outfits for Family Photos

At Tara Flannery Photography, we are here to help with every stage of the process for family portraits.  Beginning with a consultation, Tara will help you make decisions about the location for the portrait session and about clothing and outfits for the family.  She will walk through options starting with the person who has the fewest clothing choices.  That person’s outfit will often determine style and color choices.  A tip for choosing outfits is to start with neutral colors for everyone (khaki, earth tones, or blues) and then add a pop of color in a sweater, scarf, shoes, or other accessory.  Try to stay away from solid white and solid black.  Adding lots of texture and layers is a good idea and can help tie everyone together.

The Westwood Family

The Westwood family had a great color combination in their outfits for family photos.  With blue jeans as the family base or neutral color, each outfit was then built with a blue and/or green shirt or sweater.  Mom added a scarf to tie in the blue color again with her outfit.  By adding these layers and textures, all of the outfits coordinated beautifully.  What a fun session with this family!  I absolutely adore the photo of Mom with the kids – gentle and beautiful.  She will treasure this image for years to come.  The kids will grow up but she will be able to hold onto this moment, at this age, forever.
